Remember that part in School of Rock where the little dorky classical guitar kid tells Mr. Schneebly that his father told him rock music was a waste of time? Well, here is the Chengdu tribute to the teacher’s response: WASTETIME 2017.

Wastetime is an annual fest of rock, youth and booze presented by the ubiquitous Van Music Studio, a grungy rehearsal space near the student bar area of Jiuyanqiao. Surrounded by congealing chuan chuan oil and the ever lingering stench of piss and cigarettes, Van Music Studio is a hub for local bands in Chengdu, a gathering place where this community of believers in the faith of rock ‘n’ roll come to practice, jam and repurpose the use of band fliers into rolling trays.

Complete with two rooms, kitted out backline and mixing services from the laoban affectionately known as ‘Long,’ Van Music Studio’s schedule is booked back to back throughout the week full of bands wanting a piece of the action (and the enormous 100w amplifier stacks).

Wastetime is thus a celebration of the talent that comes through Van’s doors, bringing together a one of a kind, diverse line up into one day of performance at the premiere venue in town NU SPACE. Nowhere else could you find a line up that swings from folk to shoegaze to classic bogan rock in one evening. Preserve the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll - that’s the Van Music Studio way. Don’t waste your time.

THE HEAT

The Heat乐队成立与2016年7月，致力于打造快、狠、乱的地下现场，成都朋克最新鲜的血液，风格以Jet Rock／Punk/Hardcore Punk为主。喷射最尖锐的噪音，如果你还无法想象，就想想什么是“ 快、猛、狠 ”。

STINK MOUTH

臭嘴巴Stink Mouth乐队成军于2014年，风格是punk rock。从成军以来，混迹于各种livehouse，他们提倡自由、简单、打破常态的生活态度与朋克精神！

2015年1月形成全新阵容，使乐队整体风格有了更加确定的方向。他们坚守着朋克最直接的三大件的表达方式，以贝斯作为基调，融入酸性的吉他律动，加以深沉的演唱风格，使音乐弥漫着焦虑、灰暗且随时都可能躁动的气氛。他们时而沉默，时而混乱，却坚定的呐喊着他们所想表达的一切，这就是他们所诠释的朋克音乐！

SOUND AND FURY

乐队成立于2011年3月，扎根在西南地区，乐队名取自威廉福柯纳的长篇小说。乐队成员均受到了80年代末到90年代shoegaze音乐影响，用声音的喧哗和躁动诠释着斑斓的梦境。崇尚简单三大件制造出的有力听觉冲击，并加入合成器和女声，在噪音墙中铺开梦幻的人声，衬托出唯美的旋律。在几经人员变动后，又加入了noise pop、indie rock和post punk的元素，音乐也逐渐从稚嫩的模仿蜕变为成熟的自我发声。
